I just watched Pretty in Pink a few days ago and I am absolutely loving the prominently appalled fashion inkling in this movie. I specially love Andie’s very granny-ish, indie, DIY thrift-chic look that I am mostly channeling myself. A few points goes to Iona’s (One of Andie’s “older” besties, who owns the record store) jumpy, mood-inspired style sensibility (from punk 80’s leather to cooky mod chinese chic) and of course Andie’s best boy bud, the crazy, eclectic Duckie, who’s mix of indie-debonair is very much note-worthy. Their has been misses though, like Blaine’s boring, it’s-expensive-it-doesn’t-matter ensembles and of course the notorious, frumpy, unflattering DIY Pink dress that Andie wore at the Prom. It should’ve been the highlight of the movie, but then again..hmm..it might have been fancy in the 80’s but it just drowned tragically among the fashion highlights in this teen flick. Here are My Fave Fashion Moments in this movie.
1. Andie saw Blaine at the Record Store again: floral pants, lace top and pastel blue cardigan
2. Andie thought Blaine stood her up during their date and confides to Iona and Duckie: I don’t like Andie’s grandma’s-pair outfit but I do find Iona’s sartorial goth 50’s pair very chic and polished.
3. Iona’s Chinatown pad: I like Iona’s mod-oriental dress (like Erdem minus the florals) and Andie’s Olive green Korean varsity jacket.
4. The Date: I am in love with her whole look. The Chinese cape with the floral decolletage and green oriental dress is tres magnifique (I’m pretty sure she borrowed this from Iona)
Just some love for
